HTM 01-05, Decontamination Section 1.25

Training and education in the processes of pathogen control, decontamination, cleaning and hygiene (including hand hygiene), exposure to blood-borne viruses, and infection risk reduction, including waste disposal, should be part of staff induction programmes. They are key aspects of patient safety and service quality. Accordingly the provision of training and competency records is a keyrequirement. As part of verifiable continuous professional development (CPD), professionals working in this area will receive not less than five hours’ training in this area over a period of five years.
