Sanitary Waste Disposal Method
Regulation 21 of the Approved Code of Practice, in the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, advises that:
"in the case of water closets used by women, suitable means should be provided for the disposal of sanitary dressings "
“no items should be flushed that could cause a blockage within a drain or sewer”.
Professional Hygiene provides this service for any premise that has the need for it. We supply the sanitary bin, service the bin on site and remove the waste for disposal.
We use a "bag" type service whereby a black bag is inserted in the bin for the sanitary items to drop into. In the bag also is a "T" bag looking item that has varius organic items within. Most people think this is to mask any smells but it is actually there to dry out sanitary items thrown in the bin as it is wet items that will smell more.
When our trained operatives carry out the bin service they will arrive at your premise with a holdall that contains all the items required for the service.
They will remove the bin lid and firstly remove the bag and tie it for safety reasons, they will then replace the bag and add the "T" bag. They will then turn their attention to cleaning the inside of the modesty chute with a bacterial wipe then replace it on the bin. They will then use a microfibre cloth and bactericidal spray to clen athe outside of the bin whilst checking the condition of the bin.
The tied bag will then be put in their holdall for tranportation to their van outside. This will allow tham to walk through your premises without staff or customers being able to see the waste removed.
Legislation in this area has been introduced to protect both employees and the environment. It applies to all businesses even if they only have one female employed.
Businesses not providing adequate washroom facilities and sanitary disposal for their employees could be prosecuted. They are also required under the Environment Act to dispose of all waste properly and failing to do this could also lead to prosecution.
