Pharmaceutical (Blue lid)
Blue lidded sharps bins are used for the incineration of Prescription Only Medicines that have become out of date or part used.
These include Dentists, Doctors, Paramedics, Hospitals, Pharmacy's and other business's that dispense or take back POM's.
They come in different sizes so the size used by each site will vary.
If you have an emergency medical kit on your premises, as Dental practices do, then its not just medicines and tablets that need to be disposed of in this manner.
The EpiPen should also be diaposed of in a blue sharps bin.
Midazolam and some other drugs should not be put into the blue sharps bin they should be rendered useless via a Denaturing Kit. Please see this section for further information about their disposal.
Outside of a Pharmacy these don't tend to fill up quickly.
The sharps bin range we use is manufactured to the most stringent quality and safety standards: BS EN ISO 23907, UN3291, AFNOR NFX 30-500 and ISO 9002.
SHARPS BINS SHOULD BE DATED, HAVE A DEPARTMENT OR ROOM No. AND SIGNED BY THE PERSON "BUILDING" OR PUTTING THE BIN IN TO SERVICE WRITTEN ON THE LABEL.
