SHARPSMART REUSABLE SHARPS BIN
There are not many things that can be done within the waste industry to try and be green but there is one item we have discovered that is at least doing its small bit to help the planet.
How does SharpSmart help....
SharpSmart is a sharps bin in its use just like any other sharps bin currently being used in ant dental practice but this bin can be reused.
The SharpSmart bin allows the user to put any item, needles, syringes, burrs and drills in the bin ready for disposal. It has a lid that can be temporarily or fully closed. A small addition is a swinging internal safety tray that stops access to the contents. When the bin is full, there is a visual indicator on the outside, you close the lid and lock it shut like any other bin. It is then collected by us and transported back to our waste transfer station.
We then store them up in a transportation cage until we have 36 then we get the full ones collected and a delivery of 36 empty, sterilised and pre used bins.
When the SharpSmart gets back to it's site does all the magic start. The bins are unlocked an put on to a machne that then opens the lid fully, empties the contents, puts the bin through a comprehensive cleaning and strilisation process. Finally it gets a visual inspection tomake sure it is fit for purpose then put back into circulation to do it all again.
We found this type of bin extremely useful for customers that are using teh Septodont Ultra Safety Plus single use needle system. Lots of our customers started using the Septodont system then asked for bigger sharps bins as they were filling up quicker than using the removable needles.
We worked with a few of our customers to help them but when we found the SharpSmart system everthing fell into place as it would hold nearly 3 times the amount of septodont than a 5Ltr bin and still more than an 11.5Ltr bin.
